We want to make the Diversity Living Space at Südkreuz a lively place for the LGBTI* community and use it as a base for realising further projects to improve services for our target groups.
We opened the Lebensort Vielfalt (Gotenstraße on the corner of Ella-Barowsky-Straße) at Südkreuz on 1 October 2023. This is the headquarters of Schwulenberatung Berlin with offices and counselling rooms. There are 69 flats spread over 5 floors. Younger and older LGBTI* people live in the building, including single people, couples and families. The majority of the flats are for people with a WBS. There are two therapeutic flat-sharing communities, including one specifically for lesbian women with 5 places and a care flat-sharing community that provides a home for 8 people.
The Diversity Centre is unique in Europe in terms of its size and diversity. Its realisation took more than six years, including 17 months of pure construction time. A total of around six million euros was invested. More than half of this was financed by the Stiftung Deutsche Klassenlotterie Berlin. The Stiftung Deutsches Hilfswerk ("Deutsche Fernsehlotterie") also contributed a large proportion. Further funding came from private and public loans, donations and sponsorship.
In concrete terms, the Südkreuz project will be realised:
- 69 flats, (22 low-price segment = € 6.50 per m²)
of which:
- 30 for gay seniors
- 17 for lesbian senior citizens
- 7 for older trans*Inter people
- 11 for younger LGBTI people
- 1 LGBTI residential care community (8 places)
- 2 TWG's gay/LSBTI with/without refugee background

- Day care centre with 45 places
- Employment day centre with 15 places
- Care support centre, especially for LGBTI* people
